Belfast student excels in math, outperforming 17,000+ peers across the island
A 10-year-old pupil from Dundonald Primary School in Belfast has made headlines by outshining over 17,000 other children across Ireland to take the top spot in a prestigious island-wide math competition known as Ireland Rocks. The competition, organized by Times Tables Rock Stars as part of Maths Week Ireland, put students’ times table skills to the test.
Principal David Massey elaborated on how the competition works, explaining that students must tackle as many multiplication and division questions as they can over a three-day period during Maths Week. In this event, 17,541 children competed to showcase their mathematical abilities.
Scott Cairns from Dundonald Primary School distinguished himself as the best performer in the contest. His impressive speed and accuracy earned him the top position overall in Ireland. Mr. Massey praised Scott’s commitment, hard work, and passion for mathematics, stating that his success reflects his dedication to learning and excellence.
The young math whizz has not only made his teachers proud but also inspired his peers with his enthusiasm for learning and his pursuit of excellence.
