Unhappily Ever Now releases latest single ‘To The Light’
Unhappily Ever Now has recently unveiled their latest digital single titled “To The Light.” This emotionally charged track, penned by songwriter Stephen Watson, serves as a heartfelt homage to his feline companion and delves into the profound realm of unconditional love and the poignant realization of time’s fleeting nature.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Watson candidly shares, “He’s been with me through everything. His presence provided me with unwavering support during my darkest moments. ‘To The Light’ isn’t a farewell; it embodies a vow that his love will forever reside within me.”
Unhappily Ever Now, spearheaded by Watson as the primary songwriter and instrumentalist, alongside vocalist Maria V, is known for their distinctive alt/rock/art-rock sound. Watson, recognized as the creative force behind Cleopatra Records’ artist Green Jelly, has successfully channeled his musical vision through the project.
The duo made their debut with a self-titled EP in 2021 and followed up with a remix EP in 2022 featuring collaborations with esteemed acts such as Assemblage 23, The Joy Thieves, and 00tz 00tz. In May 2023, they dropped the single “Pleading (The Haunting of Scars)” and later treated fans to reimagined versions courtesy of Rabbit Junk and Stabbing Westward in the same year.
In an exciting turn of events, Unhappily Ever Now unveiled a cover of A Perfect Circle’s “Orestes” in May 2025, which was met with acclaim. Building on this momentum, the band recently released “To The Light” in October 2025.
The distinct charm and emotional depth of Unhappily Ever Now’s music have garnered widespread praise from audiences and critics alike. With each release, the duo continues to captivate listeners with their introspective lyrics, captivating melodies, and evocative soundscapes.
In essence, “To The Light” serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring power of love and the profound impact that our closest companions have on our lives.
