Foo Fighters to drop new track ‘Asking For A Friend’ this week

Dave Grohl and his band, the Foo Fighters, are gearing up to release a new song titled “Asking For A Friend” this week. This track will be their first new studio material following their 2023 album “But Here We Are.”

Teasing the upcoming release, Dave Grohl and the band shared a brief preview of the song on social media. The teaser, a 30-second clip featuring an image of a colorful bird, was captioned “about to take flight.” Fans have speculated online that the bird’s design may hint at a connection to Brazil, although no official confirmation has been provided by the band.

The artwork for the single notably features drummer Ilan Rubin, implying that this may mark his first studio recording with the Foo Fighters. Rubin joined the band during surprise live performances in September, taking over drumming duties from Josh Freese. During one of their live shows in San Luis Obispo, Grohl introduced Rubin to the audience, exclaiming, “Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome the most badass mother******, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters. It’s official.”

Formerly a member of Nine Inch Nails, Rubin switched roles with Freese, who has since rejoined Trent Reznor’s band. Freese expressed his excitement about reuniting with Nine Inch Nails, describing the experience as “amazing” and promising fans an “unforgettable” tour.

The Foo Fighters’ previous album, “But Here We Are,” was their first without their longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins, who tragically passed away in 2022. Earlier this year, the band released “Are We Playing Where??? Vol.1,” a live album featuring six tracks from their September club shows in San Luis Obispo, Santa Ana, Washington D.C., and New Haven – showcasing Rubin’s initial performances with the group.
