Novum Live provides Outline system for Coton Green Community Church
Coton Green Community Church, established in 1969, has been an integral part of the Tamworth and Lichfield communities in Staffordshire, UK. The church’s purpose-built centre, The Coton Centre, has been a hub for various activities and services since its inauguration in 1992, featuring a welcoming 650-seat auditorium at its core.
With a desire to enhance the sound system in the main auditorium, the church explored several options before selecting Novum Live. The decision was influenced by Novum Live’s attentive approach and deep understanding of the church’s requirements. Utilizing Outline’s advanced 3D acoustic simulation software, OpenArray, Novum Live meticulously designed the audio system. Through virtual modeling, the team strategically positioned Outline loudspeakers to ensure optimal coverage, sound pressure level (SPL), and uniformity throughout the auditorium.
Tim Jacques from Novum Live reflected on the design process, noting that while multiple configurations were technically viable, the Outline Vegas 15 CX proved to be the most suitable choice. By adjusting the horn’s orientation, the team achieved the desired vertical reach for raised seating areas while maintaining precise horizontal control to prevent unwanted wall reflections. Instead of a line-array system, a point-source design was deemed the ideal solution for this project.
The final installation featured Vegas 15 CX loudspeakers strategically suspended in left, centre, and right positions, delivering consistent coverage across the entire auditorium, including the upper-tier mix location. Given the speaker height and proximity to the stage, a dedicated front-fill system was deemed essential. Six Outline Vegas 24 loudspeakers were tactically installed along the stage edge, ensuring clear and balanced sound for audience members seated in the front rows and individuals actively participating in services on stage.
Moreover, the installation included two SUB 215 dual 15-inch subwoofers to provide robust low-frequency support, distributing powerful bass evenly across the room. James Lawford, representing CUK Group, the UK distributor for Outline, emphasized the significance of meticulous system design in achieving exceptional results. The collaboration between Novum Live and Outline resulted in superior sound quality and extensive coverage, as Lawford experienced firsthand during a post-installation visit.
The amplification and processing components of the system were managed by two Powersoft Quattrocanali 4804 DSP + Dante amplifiers, each optimized with presets specific to Outline loudspeakers for maximum performance and longevity. The configuration allowed for efficient power distribution, with the SUB 215s and Vegas 24s sharing an amplifier, while a dedicated unit powered the main Vegas 15 CX loudspeakers. Compact and powerful, the system required minimal rack space and delivered ample headroom for both dynamic performances and spoken word presentations.
The successful partnership between Novum Live and Outline, supported by CUK Group, culminated in a seamless and efficient audio solution for Coton Green Community Church’s main auditorium. The precision engineering and thoughtful design considerations have resulted in an immersive sound experience that enhances the overall worship and community engagement in this sacred space.
