Carrigan’s opens a new branch in downtown Birmingham
Carrigan’s, the beloved local restaurant and cocktail bar, has recently opened a new location in downtown Birmingham. After closing its previous spot on Morris Avenue, owner David Carrigan decided to make the move to a new development known as The William in 2024. Known for its unique interpretations of classic pub fare and extensive beverage selection, Carrigan’s has always been a popular spot for after-work drinks and special events.
The new location at The William offers guests a fresh perspective on the Carrigan’s experience. Located at 1913 3rd Ave N, the entrance to the establishment is tucked away in an alley between 2nd Ave and 3rd Ave N, providing a private and exclusive entrance for patrons. Inside, the ambiance of the original Carrigan’s location has been carefully preserved, complete with industrial decor elements like a steel railroad track and an iconic Land Rover. David Carrigan ensured that every piece of wood used in the new location was reclaimed from the building itself, adding a touch of history and authenticity to the space.
One of the standout features of the new Carrigan’s is the stunning marble bartop, handcrafted by David Carrigan using antique marble sourced from New Jersey. The bartop serves as a unique homage to Birmingham, with a map of the city etched into the marble surface. The attention to detail and craftsmanship put into creating this new space reflects Carrigan’s commitment to providing a top-notch dining experience for its guests.
In addition to the revamped setting, Carrigan’s has also introduced a new menu with a focus on elevated table service. While the restaurant has retained some of its classic dishes, such as the kale caesar salad, house-cut fries, and house-smoked wings, there are also new and exciting options to explore. Chef Sam Hickmott, who previously worked with David at Brät Brot, has introduced dishes like the Lamb Shank Roast and the Steak and Fries, offering a fresh take on traditional favorites.
Carrigan’s officially opened its doors at the new downtown Birmingham location on Tuesday, October 28th, with operating hours from 5-10 PM until Saturday, November 1st.
