2025 Rock Festival Set to Take Place at Rymill Park and King Rodney Park in Adelaide
The recent Harvest Rock Festival held at Rymill Park & King Rodney Park in Adelaide showcased the resilience of bespoke live music events amidst the challenges faced by the festival industry. Despite a turbulent few years for music festivals, this two-day event organized by the creators of Splendour In The Grass drew in 38,000 attendees, with 30% coming from interstate to experience the musical extravaganza at two scenic park locations in the city’s heart.
As an interstate festival-goer who made the journey to Adelaide for this special event, the allure of the star-studded lineup was impossible to resist. Boasting an array of artists who dominated the mid to late 2000s music scene and continue to captivate audiences almost two decades later, the festival aimed to create lasting memories that would linger in attendees’ minds for years to come.
The anticipation for Harvest Rock peaked when the coveted lineup was unveiled, headlined by The Strokes in an exclusive Australian performance. Supported by acts like The War On Drugs, M.I.A., The Presets, Vance Joy, PNAU, Groove Armada, and Ministry Of Sound Classical, among others, the festival promised a diverse range of musical experiences that catered to varied tastes. This exciting lineup prompted me to secure my travel arrangements swiftly, a departure from my usual leisurely approach to interstate trips.
Despite encountering unexpected weather challenges in the form of a sudden thunderstorm and blazing heat, the festival spirit remained undampened. An early afternoon storm forced a temporary shutdown of the event, testing the organizers’ adaptability and attendees’ patience. Nonetheless, the resilience of both parties shone through as the festival resumed after an hour, infusing the air with an electric buzz of excitement.
The atmosphere as I entered the festival grounds was one of palpable enthusiasm as eager attendees streamed in to catch their favorite acts. The efficient entry process ensured that even latecomers experienced minimal delays, immersing them promptly into the festival ambiance. While my delayed entry meant missing out on exploring various activation zones and culinary delights scattered throughout the site, it only fueled my eagerness to delve straight into the musical offerings.
Vance Joy’s spirited performance provided a memorable high point as the crowd reveled in his infectious folk-pop rock tunes, culminating in an exuberant rendition of ‘Riptide.’ Vibrant and engaging, his set struck a chord with fans both old and new, showcasing his evolution as an artist. Despite missing out on The Jungle Giants’ set, my vantage point near the sound desk afforded me an up-close view of The Presets’ electrifying show on the Vine Stage.
The Presets’ performance was a masterclass in electronic energy, drawing in a multigenerational audience eager to groove along to their hits. Their setlist, comprising beloved tracks like ‘I Go Hard, I Go Home,’ ‘Youth In Trouble,’ ‘Talk Like That,’ and ‘My People,’ captured the essence of their musical prowess and left a lasting impression on the festival-goers. By seamlessly blending nostalgia with contemporary flair, The Presets encapsulated the festival’s vibrant spirit and offered an unforgettable experience to all in attendance.
