Breville’s innovative toaster, Eye Q, revolutionizes the game after a decade of development
Breville has recently launched a groundbreaking home appliance that the brand has never ventured into before, despite being renowned for its coffee makers and microwaves. The Eye Q Auto Toaster, which Breville boasts took a decade to develop, is an innovative kitchen gadget that has never been seen before on the market.
According to Tom Groundes-Peace, Senior Global Category Manager at Breville, this toaster is a game-changer in the industry. The research and development team at Breville, headed by Australian engineers, have dedicated ten years to perfecting this toaster, which is more complex than some deep-sea technology.
What makes the Eye Q Auto Toaster so revolutionary is its ability to toast based on colour and texture rather than just time. Equipped with optic sensors that monitor each slice up to 10 times per second, the toaster stops toasting when the desired colour is reached. This feature ensures that each slice of bread is perfectly toasted every time, eliminating the need for re-toasting or wasting over-toasted pieces.
The idea for the toaster came about to address a common frustration among consumers. Often, individuals find it challenging to determine the appropriate toast settings for different types of bread, leading to inconsistent results and wasted slices. By incorporating the Eye Q Optic Sensor technology, Breville hopes to provide a solution to this age-old problem.
The development of this technology was no easy task. It required a team of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, along with a mathematician and a scientist, to bring the concept to life. Additionally, Breville collaborated with a company called Sensability to develop the sensor package that is at the core of the Eye Q. This sensor package uses dual wavelength green and infrared LEDs to monitor the colour change of bread and stops toasting once the desired shade is achieved.
One of the key challenges in creating the Eye Q toaster was making the sensor package reliable and cost-effective while ensuring it could withstand the harsh conditions inside a toaster, such as high heat and smoke. By fine-tuning the sensors to detect the right shades across various bread types and adjusting the algorithm to account for differences in colour profiles and moisture content, Breville was able to overcome this obstacle.
The result is a futuristic toaster that offers a premium toasting experience for consumers. Priced at $469, the Eye Q Auto Toaster represents a significant investment for those seeking a high-quality kitchen appliance. With its advanced technology and unique features, this toaster is set to revolutionize the way we toast bread at home.
