Mudvayne releases two new tracks after 16-year hiatus
Mudvayne has recently dropped two new tracks, marking their first release in 16 years since their self-titled album in 2009. The band unveiled “Hurt People Hurt People,” featuring vocals by Chad Gray, alongside guitarist Greg Tribbett, bassist Ryan Martinie, and drummer Matthew McDonough. Gray discussed the inspiration behind the song, stating that the concept of hurting others due to our own pain has been present since ancient times. He emphasized the need to break the cycle of projecting our suffering onto others and promoting self-love to overcome pain that we may have internalized.
Shortly after releasing “Hurt People Hurt People,” Mudvayne also shared another song titled “Sticks and Stones.” Gray delved into the meaning behind this track, questioning the age-old saying that words can never hurt despite his own experiences. He shared that hurtful words, particularly coming from loved ones, can have a lasting impact and stains that are not easily washed away. Gray urged listeners to be mindful of the words they use towards children, highlighting the vulnerability and impressionability of young individuals.
In addition to the new music, the band announced the release of a limited edition double A side seven-inch vinyl featuring both tracks, with one variant signed and limited to 500 units. These exclusive items are available through the band’s webstore along with a new merchandise collection. Mudvayne recently concluded a tour commemorating the 25th anniversary of their debut album, L.D. 50, performing alongside Static-X, who celebrated the same milestone for their debut record, Wisconsin Death Trip, with support from Vended.
