Saturday’s weather forecast: Clouds on the rise
Happy Saturday morning! As we begin our day, a frost advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. CDT. Expect temperatures in the mid to upper 30s, with the possibility of sunshine early on. However, as we progress through the day, cloud cover is expected to increase due to an incoming system that is forming in the central United States. This developing low-pressure area will likely affect the Southeast tomorrow, bringing chilly temperatures and the potential for scattered showers.
For today, most areas should stay dry with temperatures reaching the mid 60s in the afternoon. Light winds from the south-southeast at 5 mph are anticipated. The Moss Rock Festival in Hoover is set to enjoy nice weather, with evening temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 50s. While most areas will remain dry in the evening, a chance of an isolated shower or sprinkles exists in far west/northwest Alabama after 7 p.m. CDT. Sunset is expected at 5:55 p.m. CDT.
Tonight marks the end of Daylight Saving Time, so don’t forget to set your clocks back! This change not only gives us an extra hour of sleep but also serves as a reminder to prepare our homes for winter. Remember to replace the batteries in your smoke detectors and have fresh batteries for your NOAA Weather Radio as we enter the severe weather season. With sunrise at 6:07 a.m. CDT tomorrow and sunset at 4:53 p.m. CDT, be ready for the time change.
Looking ahead to Sunday, expect cooler temperatures with an upper-level low diving into the Southeast. We can anticipate mostly cloudy skies to start the day in the mid 40s, with a chance of showers mainly along and north of I-20. The afternoon will bring a 30-40% chance of scattered showers as winds increase from the northwest at 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Rain is more likely in east Alabama late Sunday.
As the upper-level low exits the region Sunday night, expect clearing skies and temperatures to drop into the upper 30s with a chance of patchy frost in some areas. Monday is predicted to be sunny with temperatures in the mid 60s and northerly winds at 5-10 mph. Looking further into the week, temperatures are expected to climb above average with highs in the low to mid 70s. A brief shower is possible next Friday night as a weak cold front moves through, followed by scattered showers next Sunday as another cold front sweeps through the Southeast.
Overall, the weather for the upcoming week looks mostly dry and sunny, perfect for outdoor activities and preparing for the changing season. Download the WBRC First Alert Weather App for the latest updates, and enjoy the pleasant weather ahead.
