Deftones debut four new songs at San Diego festival
Deftones showcased four tracks from their newest album, private music, during their recent performance at the annual Dia de los Deftones festival at Petco Park in San Diego on November 1. It was the first time these songs were performed live, delighting fans in attendance. The band’s setlist included a total of 21 songs, with highlights such as “locked club,” “souvenir,” “cut hands,” and “i think about you all the time.”
In a surprise move, Deftones also treated fans to a rare performance of “Street Carp” from their 2000 album White Pony, a song that had not been played since 2019. The show featured a mix of new tracks and classic hits spanning the band’s extensive career. Kicking off the evening with “my mind is a mountain,” Deftones jumped into the energetic rendition of “locked club,” setting the tone for the night.
The festival lineup included a diverse range of acts like Clipse, 2hollis, Deafheaven, Rico Nasty, and Glare, with Deftones headlining as they have done since the festival’s inception. Throughout the evening, the crowd was treated to a blend of beloved fan favorites such as “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away),” “My Own Summer (Shove It),” and “Change (In the House of Flies).”
As the main set came to a close with “milk of the madonna,” the audience eagerly awaited an encore from the band. Deftones obliged with a three-song encore, featuring the debut live performance of “i think about you all the time.” The night concluded on a high note with “Engine No. 9” and “7 Words,” leaving fans exhilarated.
Following the performance, fan-captured videos began circulating online, showcasing various moments from the show, including the premiere of tracks from the new album. These clips were shared enthusiastically across social media platforms, further highlighting the excitement surrounding the event.
Notably, the band’s approach to setlist curation for Dia De Los Deftones has remained consistent over the years, combining well-known classics with rare gems and fresh material to create a dynamic and engaging concert experience for fans.
