Jelly Roll criticizes Australian Louis Vuitton store for treating him unfairly
Jelly Roll had an unsettling experience while on his Australian tour when he decided to do some luxury shopping in Sydney. The former rapper turned country music sensation took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday to detail his visit to a Louis Vuitton store, expressing how he felt unwelcome due to the treatment he received from the staff.
In a series of videos, the 40-year-old artist humorously shared his encounter outside the high-end retailer, remarking, “Hey man, The Louis Vuitton in Sydney, legitimately just treated us like we were finna come in and rob that place.” He found it amusing how the staff’s initial behavior made him feel like a criminal, jokingly mentioning that it reminded him of his troubled past, saying, “I have never been looked at more like a crim… Listen, the last time I was looked at like a criminal this bad.. I was an actual criminal this bad,” alluding to his extensive history of arrests related to drug charges dating back to his teenage years.
Despite the uncomfortable incident, Jelly Roll has been enjoying his first-ever Australian tour, with various scheduled performances across Queensland, Newcastle, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne, and participation in the Strummingbird Festival. This tour represents a significant milestone for the artist, overcoming previous limitations due to his criminal record that prohibited him from performing on international stages.
Just last year, Jelly Roll made headlines with his debut non-U.S. tour dates in Canada, following an appearance on Howard Stern’s show where he revealed the challenges he faced securing international bookings due to his legal history. Although the luxury shopping experience may not have been the highlight of his trip, the Nashville native has been enthusiastically embracing Australian culture, sharing moments of Australian football, posing at iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House, and even joining in on local customs such as participating in a “shoey” ritual with his drummer.
As the tour progresses, Jelly Roll has two remaining performances, one in Townsville at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Thursday and the final show at Western Springs in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday. Despite the initial discomfort at the Louis Vuitton store, it seems that Jelly Roll is making the most of his time Down Under and is appreciating the diverse experiences and opportunities that his international tour has afforded him.
