Delaware Department of Justice secures guilty plea in 2024 murder case
In a tragic turn of events, a Dover man, Kyle Batson, 27, has confessed to a series of severe charges, including second-degree murder and first-degree rape, in connection to the brutal assault and murder of 26-year-old Myeshia Triplett in 2024. Authorities disclosed Batson’s guilty pleas on November 6, 2025, to charges of murder, rape, strangulation, abuse of a corpse, and theft of a motor vehicle, all stemming from the harrowing attack on Triplett near the 700 block of Catawba Avenue in Wilmington on September 12, 2024. Following the assault, Batson reportedly stole a vehicle and absconded to Howard County, Maryland, where he was apprehended after a collision. He was subsequently extradited back to Delaware on December 4, 2024.
Acknowledging the gravity of the case, Attorney General Kathy Jennings described it as “an absolute tragedy” while commending the efforts of the Department of Justice and Wilmington Police Department in swiftly bringing the perpetrator to justice. She expressed deep gratitude to the team and law enforcement partners for their dedication in ensuring accountability for the criminal’s actions, aiming to provide some solace to the victim’s family. Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos also shared his sentiments, emphasizing the relentless work of investigators and collaborating agencies in resolving the case. Campos expressed hope that the guilty plea and ensuing sentencing would offer the Triplett family a sense of closure and confirm that justice was being served.
Batson is set to face an open sentencing hearing on January 30, 2026, with the weight of state law dictating a minimum mandatory sentence of 32 years. The possible sentence amounts to two life imprisonments plus an extra 28 years behind bars.
