The Springboks emerged victorious in a thrilling encounter against France in Paris, scoring four tries to seal a 32-17 win over the Six Nations champions. The match also marked a significant milestone for Springbok captain Siya Kolisi, who made his 100th Test match appearance on the day, having previously clinched the Castle Lager Rugby Championship title earlier in the year.

France got off to a strong start, with an early try in the fourth minute courtesy of Thomas Ramos, who cleverly chipped the ball behind the South African defense for Damian Penaud to collect and score. Despite this setback, South Africa responded with Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu converting two penalties in quick succession, bringing their points tally up.

The French side, however, continued to apply pressure and extended their lead in the 26th minute when Penaud crossed for his second try of the match, putting France ahead with 14 points. The Springboks retaliated almost immediately, with Cobus Reinach’s deft chip unlocking the French defense for him to score a crucial try, narrowing the gap on the scoreboard.

The first-half drama escalated when Lood de Jager was sent off with a red card in the 38th minute after his shoulder made contact with Ramos’s head. Despite this setback, South Africa came out firing in the second half, showcasing a masterclass performance that stunned the home crowd. France added only a penalty through Ramos early in the second half, but it would be their final points of the game.

With the French side reduced to 14 men after Louis Bielle-Biarrey received a yellow card, the Springboks capitalized, taking the lead for the first time in the 64th minute through Andre Esterhuizen’s try. Grant Williams’ quick thinking further extended South Africa’s lead as Feinberg-Mngomezulu converted the kick successfully.

The game-sealing moment came in the 76th minute when the South African fly-half crossed the line for a try, converting it himself and securing the victory for the visitors. Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus commended his team’s performance, particularly highlighting Kolisi’s selfless act in making way for Esterhuizen, who scored a crucial try.

Erasmus emphasized the collective effort of the team, praising the players’ understanding of their roles and the coaches’ strategies that underpinned their success. The victory against France showcased the resilience and skill of the Springboks, who overcame adversity to emerge triumphant in a challenging encounter.
