Celebrating SEC’s 40th Anniversary with Video Tracing History to Present Day
Glasgow’s Scottish Event Campus (SEC) commemorates its 40th year as a renowned venue with the release of a new video capturing its evolution over the decades. The SEC, once a part of industrial docklands, has transformed into a global hub for entertainment, sports, and business, leaving a lasting impact on Scotland’s cultural landscape.
Since its inception in 1985, the SEC has been instrumental in Glasgow’s cultural and economic renaissance, attracting top-tier artists, hosting international conferences, and organizing significant events. Renowned performers such as Luciano Pavarotti and BeyoncĂ© have graced the SEC’s stages, while high-profile gatherings like COP26 and the MTV Europe Music Awards have found a home at the campus.
The video marking the SEC’s 40th anniversary traces its journey from its early days to its present-day stature, showcasing its growth alongside the city and the revitalization of the Clydeside area. It acknowledges the SEC’s pivotal role during the Covid-19 pandemic when it served as NHS Louisa Jordan, exemplifying its adaptability and significance in times of crisis.
Chief Executive of the Scottish Event Campus, Dom McKay, reflected on the milestone, stating, “Reaching 40 years is an incredible achievement for the SEC. It’s a moment to appreciate the campus’s integral role in shaping Glasgow’s and Scotland’s cultural scene.” The SEC’s expansion has added two iconic architectural landmarks to Glasgow’s skyline: the SEC Armadillo and the OVO Hydro, drawing global superstars and local talents alike.
The venue’s sporting legacy, including its contribution to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the upcoming 2026 edition, is also highlighted in the video. The SEC’s rich history, filled with unforgettable moments and poignant experiences, sets it apart as a unique and cherished institution in Scotland’s cultural landscape.
As part of the SEC40&Me campaign, the public is invited to share their memories throughout the birthday year, celebrating the community, creativity, and spirit that define the SEC. Looking ahead, McKay expressed optimism for the future, stating, “We anticipate the next 40 years of creating incredible moments right here in Glasgow.” The video encapsulates the essence of the SEC, encapsulating its remarkable journey and setting the stage for continued success and innovation in the years to come.
