Originally from Long Island, Danny Rocco adopted the moniker Des Rocs and found his place in the vibrant club scene of New York City. Discovering his talent led him to open for legends like the Rolling Stones, representing the tradition of originality that New York is known for. Joining the ranks of iconic New York artists such as The New York Dolls, Kiss, The Ramones, Beastie Boys, and The Strokes, Des Rocs brings a fresh perspective to the music scene.
I first encountered Des Rocs in 2018, but it was in 2019 when I truly became a fan. Watching an unknown artist handpicked by the Stones’ camp perform before a massive crowd in Philadelphia showcased his confidence and charisma. Signing with Sumerian Records in 2023 further solidified his place in the industry, and his magnetic presence was undeniable during radio promotions.
Des Rocs’ ability to captivate an audience shines through in his stripped-down acoustic performances, where he reveals the raw power behind his music. Opening for notable acts like The Cult, Muse, and Badflower, as well as achieving a top 10 rock track with “I Am The Lightning,” solidified his stance in the rock genre.
Most recently, Des Rocs put his unique spin on the Johnny Cash classic “Ring Of Fire” for the “Nobody 2” soundtrack, showcasing his versatility and creativity. In a recent interview on my Carr Stereo Podcast, we delved into his latest song “This Land,” featured in the popular game franchise Borderlands 4, and explored his evolving sound and musical approach in 2025.
When asked about his guitar tone inspiration, Des Rocs revealed his unconventional approach. Rather than emulating specific tones, he relies on experimentation and intuition, using a collection of eclectic pedals to craft his signature sound.
