Report: AEW is not planning to release a new video game in the near future
In July of 2023, AEW introduced its inaugural entry into the video game world with the launch of “Fight Forever.” This gaming experience has sparked varied reactions from audience members and critics alike. Despite this debut, there seems to be minimal progress in the works for a follow-up release anytime soon.
During an inquiry about AEW’s future plans for another gaming venture, Sean Ross Sapp shared insights in the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers. Sapp hinted that AEW has gleaned valuable lessons from the development phase of Fight Forever, which could be a significant factor in why another game release is not on the immediate horizon. Moreover, he expressed doubt in AEW promoting a new game as far in advance as they did with Fight Forever. The announcement of Fight Forever took place in 2020, three years before its eventual release.
In addition to this, Sapp reinforced the fact that AEW maintains ownership of the game engine, giving them the option to create a new installment should they choose to do so. Fight Forever strived to capture the essence of classic arcade-style gameplay reminiscent of titles like WWF No Mercy, yet it encountered backlash due to its limitations concerning gameplay modes and customization features.
The avenues for AEW’s future in video games remain uncertain, particularly as no notable developments have surfaced since the initial release of Fight Forever. The trajectory of any potential follow-up game from AEW is ambiguous, given the initial game’s lukewarm reception and the company’s realization of the lessons learned during its development.
Despite the reputation of AEW as a dynamic force in the wrestling industry, the journey toward another groundbreaking video game seems stalled, leaving fans wondering about potential future gaming ventures from the organization. While the vivid world of wrestling contains endless possibilities for gaming experiences, AEW has yet to indicate a concrete plan for another video game release, raising questions among fans and industry observers about the company’s gaming future.
