After over four decades of rocking the world with their heavy metal music, Megadeth is gearing up to make their final curtain call. Founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has a grand vision for their ultimate performance – one that is literally out of this world.

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Mustaine shared his dream of Megadeth’s last show taking place in space, specifically on the moon. He expressed, “I hope we’ll be playing up in space. I think that will be a really fitting climax. And I’m not talking about on the side of a vomit comet. A gig on the moon, a full moon landing, that would be cool.”

Mustaine drew inspiration for this cosmic concert idea from celebrities like Katy Perry and William Shatner who have embarked on space flights. The legendary thrash metal vocalist stated, “I saw they sent up a bunch of celebrities into space and I thought, ‘Well, if them, why not me?’ You know? I’m just watching how that all progresses. I know Elon Musk and Richard Branson were working on interstellar travel. I think people are going to be traveling to space a lot sooner than you think.”

Responding to doubts about the feasibility of a space concert, Mustaine pointed out that people already travel to altitudes exceeding 40,000 feet, a region he considers akin to being in space. He emphasized the impending reality of space tourism, speculating on the possibility of moon colonization.

In another recent announcement, Mustaine declared that Megadeth will be wrapping up their iconic career following one last album and an extensive global tour. This farewell tour is expected to span several years, promising fans worldwide the opportunity to witness the band’s live performances for the last time.

The musician’s ambitious goal of a space concert aligns with his inventive and adventurous spirit, encapsulating the boundary-pushing ethos that has defined Megadeth throughout its illustrious history. As the band prepares to bid farewell to their loyal fan base, the prospect of a lunar concert stands as a testament to their enduring legacy and willingness to defy conventional norms in pursuit of uncharted musical frontiers.
