New Home Releases for Nov. 18: ‘Rent,’ ‘The Americas’
The new home entertainment releases for Nov. 18 include some exciting additions, such as 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays for the movies Rent and The Americas, along with a complete-series Blu-ray Disc set for the popular show “Yellowstone.”
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 2005 movie Rent by releasing it on 4K Ultra HD disc with a digital copy on Nov. 18. The film, based on Jonathan Larson’s stage musical, follows a group of bohemians in New York City’s East Village as they navigate life, love, and financial struggles. The star-studded cast includes Rosario Dawson, Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Tracie Thoms, with the movie directed by Chris Columbus.
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is bringing “The Americas,” a 10-episode BBC natural history docuseries narrated by Tom Hanks and scored by Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc on Nov. 18. The series explores the wildlife of North and South America, showcasing never-before-seen behaviors and wildlife stories captured over five years of filming and 180 expeditions. Viewers will witness the breathtaking landscapes of the Americas and learn about new species and fascinating animal behavior.
“Yellowstone: The Complete Series,” created by Taylor Sheridan and starring Kevin Costner, will be released on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on Nov. 18 by Alliance Home Entertainment in partnership with Paramount Pictures. The show follows the Dutton family as they struggle to protect their cattle ranch from various threats. The series ran for 53 episodes across five seasons, and the complete series set includes all episodes spread across multiple discs.
Kino Lorber is releasing the 2024 German documentary “Riefenstahl” on Nov. 18, which explores the life and work of filmmaker and Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl. The film dives deep into Riefenstahl’s controversial legacy, including her association with Nazi ideology and denial of involvement in the Holocaust. Director Andres Veiel uses never-before-seen documents, footage, and letters to shed new light on her career and motivations.
On the horror front, Void Signal is releasing the 2024 indie slasher film “The Blade Cuts Deeper” on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and digitally on Nov. 18. The movie follows a true-crime podcast host who becomes the target of a stalker, leading to a suspenseful and chilling narrative.
PBS Distribution is presenting “The American Revolution,” a six-part documentary series by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt, available on DVD and Blu-ray Disc starting Nov. 18. The series explores the events leading up to and following the American Revolutionary War, highlighting the global impact of this monumental historical event.
For fans of psychological thrillers, Level 33 Entertainment will release “Reawakening” on demand starting Nov. 18. The film follows a couple who must navigate a disturbing revelation when their missing daughter returns after a decade with secrets of her own.
Additionally, Criterion’s Eclipse series will release Abbas Kiarostami’s early shorts and features on Blu-ray Disc on Nov. 18, showcasing the acclaimed Iranian filmmaker’s early works in a new high-definition format.
