Honoring Freddie Mercury and Eric Carr, Legendary Rock Musicians – Hudson Valley Tribute
Those who are fans of rock music will always remember the untimely passing of two iconic rock legends, Freddie Mercury of Queen and Eric Carr of Kiss, 34 years ago on November 24, 1991. Freddie Mercury, the legendary frontman of Queen, tragically lost his battle against AIDS at the age of 45. His unique talent and showmanship made him one of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock music. With Queen, Freddie achieved unparalleled success, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with an estimated 150 to 300 million record sales worldwide. In recognition of their contribution to music, Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
Eric Carr, the drummer for Kiss, also passed away on the same day at the age of 41 after a brave fight against cancer. While his death may have been overshadowed by Freddie Mercury’s passing, Eric Carr’s impact on the music industry was significant. He joined Kiss in 1980 and took on the persona of ‘The Fox’ during the band’s makeup era, succeeding ‘Catman’ Peter Criss. Despite being a Brooklyn native, Eric Carr had strong ties to the Hudson Valley NY area. His parents, Albert and Connie Caravello, eventually settled in Sullivan County, where they lived for many years.
As a tribute to Eric Carr, his parents had a store dedicated to his memorabilia in the old Dutchess Mall in Fishkill. Displayed in the store were various items related to Eric Carr, including his chrome Chikara drum set, which he used during the Kiss 1988 Crazy Nights tour. Video footage of Carr performing with Kiss on the tour could be seen playing on a small TV in the store. Eric Carr’s final resting place is at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh, NY.
Both Freddie Mercury and Eric Carr left a lasting impact on the world of rock music, and their legacies continue to be celebrated by fans around the globe. Today, we remember these two great rockers and the contributions they made to the music industry. Rest in peace, Freddie Mercury and Eric Carr.
