Foo Fighters achieve 13th No. 1 hit on Rock & Alternative Airplay Chart
After releasing their latest track, “Asking for a Friend,” the Foo Fighters have secured their 13th No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart. This achievement marks their second chart-topper of the year, with “Asking for a Friend” dominating the survey dated Nov. 29. The song received a significant boost, amassing 5.7 million audience impressions in the week ending Nov. 20, representing a 6% increase in popularity. The track successfully dethroned the previous chart-topper, Sublime’s “Ensenada,” which held the No. 1 position for ten consecutive weeks.
Interestingly, the Foo Fighters’ previous No. 1 hit, “Today’s Song,” held the top position for an impressive eight weeks from July to September before being replaced by “Ensenada.” With this recent accomplishment, the band now holds the record for the most No. 1 hits on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart since its inception in 2009. Green Day and Linkin Park trail behind with eight No. 1 hits each, while Cage the Elephant and Twenty One Pilots have six chart-toppers apiece.
An additional noteworthy aspect of “Asking for a Friend” is that it features drummer Ilan Rubin, who joined the band in July, taking over from former drummer Josh Freese. The track’s success extends beyond the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, as it climbed to No. 2 on Mainstream Rock Airplay and maintained its position at No. 5 on the Alternative Airplay chart. On the multimetric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart dated Nov. 22, reflecting data from Nov. 7 to 13, the single secured the No. 8 spot.
“Asking for a Friend” garnered 494,000 official U.S. streams during the specified timeframe, showcasing its strong digital presence. The combination of radio airplay and streaming figures propelled the track to higher rankings across multiple charts. The Foo Fighters strategically released “Asking for a Friend” as a standalone single, coinciding with the announcement of their 2026 Take Cover Tour scheduled for next summer.
The band’s latest achievement further solidifies their position as rock music icons and highlights their enduring popularity among fans. With a history of chart-topping hits and a dedicated following, the Foo Fighters continue to make their mark on the music industry.
