JEFF LOOMIS Praises New NEVERMORE Members as “Extremely Talented”
When the teaser for the Nevermore reunion emerged on December 27, 2024, it left many of us pondering whether to watch it on repeat or remain silent. The brief one-minute clip featured shadowy figures and familiar imagery, concluding with the words “Resurrecting The Dream,” followed by “A New Chapter Rises,” and the year “2025.” For a band so closely linked to Warrel Dane’s voice and presence, the message was both a promise and a challenge.
Guitarist Jeff Loomis recently shed light on the new era of Nevermore in a conversation with Sefo of VegaTrem. He addressed the burning question that has been on fans’ minds since the teaser dropped: Can a band truly make a comeback after losing its iconic singer?
Loomis revealed that discussions about reforming Nevermore had been ongoing with Van Williams for about three years. The guitarist acknowledged the sensitive nature of resurrecting a band after the passing of its frontman, referring to the unfortunate death of Warrel Dane in December 2017. Despite the loss, Loomis believes there were unfinished musical sentiments that needed to be expressed. He emphasized that he, Van, and the new band members intend to uphold the band’s musical legacy and have already begun scheduling shows for 2026.
As for the identities of the other band members, Loomis chose to keep them a secret for now. Understanding the scrutiny prevalent in today’s online metal community, Loomis opted to unveil the new lineup closer to the first show to avoid premature judgment. He reassured fans that the new members are highly skilled musicians who appreciate and understand the essence of Nevermore’s music. Loomis and Van meticulously reviewed around seven hundred submissions before finalizing the lineup, a process that began a year ago.
The new incarnation of Nevermore is set to deliver a heavy album that stays true to the band’s quintessential sound. Loomis expressed his excitement for the upcoming material, promising the familiar Nevermore characteristics with a heavy touch. The main question circulating is whether the absence of Warrel Dane will alter the band’s dynamics. Loomis acknowledged the new singer’s uncanny resemblance to Warrel but highlighted the additional versatility in the new vocalist’s voice, which includes death metal elements.
Overall, the anticipation for Nevermore’s return is palpable. With the new album in the works and live shows scheduled, fans can look forward to hearing classic tracks alongside new material. The band’s commitment to honoring its legacy while venturing into a fresh direction indicates an exciting chapter for Nevermore in 2026.
