Interview with Francesco Sarcina: “Now I dedicate an entire work to Giulia”
Le Vibrazioni, an Italian band from Milan, kicked off their musical journey in 2003, with Francesco Sarcina at the helm. Their first breakthrough hit was the incredibly successful song “Dedicato a te,” which served as the lead single from their debut album, also titled “Le Vibrazioni.”
What truly propelled the song to success was its accompanying music video, directed by Domenico Liggeri. The video narrates Giulia’s journey and her encounters with the band members, with Giulia being the muse behind the song, embodying a past love story that Sarcina shared in his youth.
The band’s video was shot in the Naviglio district of Milan, notably at the now-closed iconic venue “Le Scimmie.” The video featured two versions of Giulia: the first portrayed as a blonde and the second as a brunette, with the latter being the real Giulia Tagliapietra. Even after their romantic relationship had ended, Giulia and Francesco remained connected through a deep friendship.
Tragically, in May 2024 at the age of 46, Giulia passed away after a prolonged illness. Her untimely death deeply affected Sarcina, who paid tribute to her in a heartfelt post. Sarcina expressed his profound sorrow at being unable to bid Giulia farewell and confess his enduring love for her. This emotional ordeal inspired Sarcina to create a musical masterpiece centered around Giulia’s character, entitled “Immenmente Giulia.”
The rock opera, set to debut at Milan’s Teatro Nazionale from March 14 to 22, 2026, delves into the love story shared between Giulia and Francesco during the late 90s in Milan. Through a blend of real-life experiences and fictionalized daily moments, the opera encapsulates Francesco’s personal growth catalyzed by his relationship with Giulia.
The musical features a soundtrack rich in rock elements, with Sarcina emphasizing the spontaneous creation process free from external constraints. The music encapsulates the essence of Le Vibrazioni, spotlighting songs like “Dedicato a te” and “In una notte destate” with a vintage flair and nods to psychedelic rock. Diving into uncharted territory, Sarcina introduces female voices into his music for the first time, enhancing the opera’s emotional depth.
“Immenmente Giulia” will see a talented ensemble of actors/singers bring the characters to life on stage, alongside a live band performing the soundtrack each evening. The show promises a captivating blend of theatrical storytelling and musical prowess, seamlessly transitioning into genuine concert moments with the band as the focal point.
Directed by Lisa Nava, “Immenmente Giulia” is set to grace the stage at Teatro Nazionale Italiana Assicurazioni from March 14 to 22, 2026. This powerful ode to Giulia’s memory intertwines personal narratives with musical artistry, promising an unforgettable theatrical experience.
