Today’s RaW Sounds: Sypha, Red Tape Resistance, Demented Are Go
Each week, our playlist features ten fantastic acts, all with ties to Reading or Wokingham. These artists span a wide range of musical styles, but each one is distinctive and worth a listen. You may discover something new to enjoy and even be inspired to catch a live performance. This week, we introduce three new entries, each with a local connection of some sort.
The first track on our list is “Here We Go Again” by Sypha. This Brighton-based band recently performed at Reading Rising, a successful event with 22 bands and a lively audience. The song touches on the serious issue of misogyny and abuse towards women, highlighted by the raw vocals that express justified anger towards such mistreatment.
Next up is “Hellbound” by Red Tape Resistance, a band hailing from Bracknell. Despite facing geographical challenges, with one member working in Argentina, they managed to release this new track. Known for their original rock songs, we eagerly anticipate more music from them when they can reunite in the same country.
Welsh psychobilly group Demented Are Go recently graced the stage at Face Bar, courtesy of Future Transmissions. Scheduled just before Christmas, their intense stage presence combines punk rock energy with rockabilly flair, incorporating elements of horror films. Vocalist Sparky’s gravelly voice adds a unique edge to their latest release “Black Valium.”
One Last Day caught our attention at a recent gig at Face Bar. With a new lineup featuring Huw on vocals and bass alongside original members Gareth and John, they presented a five-track EP titled “Eyes Like Glass // Thoughts Like Fuel.” Their song “Don’t Go Under” showcases their evolving sound and musical direction.
