Helping those in need this holiday season: Katy And The Wild Ones spread Christmas cheer with charity single “Christmas Time Is Finally Here”
It is the seventh day of our Advent Calendar for 2025, and today, we are featuring a new holiday release that not only spreads Christmas joy but also supports a meaningful cause. “Christmas Time Is Finally Here,” the latest charity single by Katy and the Wild Ones, is dedicated to raising funds for Endometriosis UK. This track, released through Flip Flop Records, is more than just a festive tune; it is a heartfelt anthem that stems from a narrative of resilience and strength.
Katy Dann, the talented vocalist from Wales leading this musical endeavor, was once hailed as one of the most promising young singers in the UK. With a record deal from Rockfield Studios at the age of 16, major labels such as Atlantic and Sony were showing interest in her by the time she turned 19, even lining up Fatboy Slim to remix her debut. However, her career hit a roadblock when she was diagnosed with endometriosis. This chronic condition, characterized by debilitating symptoms, made it impossible for her to endure the physical demands of recording and touring, resulting in a halt to her music dreams due to a lack of funding.
Despite facing numerous surgeries and hospital visits over the following two decades, Katy’s passion for music never faded. Finding success in France, where she was lovingly referred to as “La Voix,” she defied medical expectations to become a mother. Now, at 44 years old and preparing for another operation, she has reemerged into the music scene. Invited by Simon Mulvey of the Bay City Rollers to collaborate on a Christmas single, she saw this as an opportunity to shed light on the condition that has significantly influenced her life.
The ensemble backing Katy, known as the “Wild Ones,” comprises a lineup of acclaimed musicians. Alongside Dann and Mulvey are Trevor Murrell (known for his work with Wham!, George Michael, and Sade), Ovidio Lopez (from the world of Gilbert O’Sullivan), Mikey Rowe (formerly with Oasis and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds), and Thomas Vikström (a member of Therion). The production of the track was handled by Nick Brine, who boasts an impressive resume working with The Darkness, Bruce Springsteen, and Teenage Fanclub.
Katy shares her inspiration behind this project, stating, “Music has always been my guiding light. Although I’ve faced significant losses due to this illness, if my story can bring awareness and support to other women in similar situations, then it’s been worthwhile.” Endometriosis UK, the primary charity aiding the 1 in 10 women and individuals assigned female at birth affected by the disease, has expressed gratitude for Katy’s initiative. A representative from the charity noted, “Katy, like many others, has encountered a challenging journey with her endometriosis. It’s incredibly empowering to see that this hasn’t deterred her from pursuing her goals.”
The music video for “Christmas Time Is Finally Here” is available for viewing and support, with proceeds from the single going directly to the charity. This heartwarming collaboration stands as a testament to the power of music in raising awareness and lending a helping hand to those in need.
