Australian indie rock trio Howling Bells recently released their latest single, “Heavy Lifting”. The song showcases a blend of loose-limbed drums and bluesy intonation, with lead singer Juanita addressing themes of entitlement and opportunism.

Juanita describes the track as a hazy and grunge-fueled declaration. She reflects on the resilience that comes from dedicating oneself to something they love, likening it to building callouses on one’s hands and strengthening muscles. This resilience leads to a newfound confidence that cannot be easily taken away.

This new single is part of Howling Bells’ upcoming album “Strange Life”, marking their return after over a decade since their last release. The album is set to be released on February 13, 2026, through Nude Records. Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Orlando Cubitt.

Since their inception, Howling Bells has stood out in the music scene. Breaking through with their self-titled debut in 2006, the Australian trio, composed of vocalist/guitarist Juanita Stein, guitarist Joel Stein, and drummer Glenn Moule, has defied norms and expectations. Despite facing changes in band members over the years, their hypnotic indie rock sound has remained distinct and reflective of their strong bond.

Drawing influences from artists like Tom Waits, Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, and Björk, Howling Bells’ music is a unique blend of sepia-toned romance and gritty rock ‘n’ roll. Their journey from playing local gigs to sharing stages with acclaimed artists like Coldplay has been a testament to their dedication and musical craftsmanship.

With their memorable melodies and haunting lyrics, Howling Bells continue to captivate audiences with their immersive and captivating sound. As they gear up to release “Strange Life”, fans can expect more of the ethereal atmosphere and sonic depth that has defined the band’s signature style.

In a music landscape saturated with trends and fleeting fads, Howling Bells remain a steadfast presence, offering a timeless blend of indie rock that resonates with listeners on a deeper level. “Heavy Lifting” is just a glimpse of what’s to come from this talented trio, signaling their triumphant return to the music scene after a prolonged hiatus.
