Ignis Absconditus reveals latest album “Transfigurations”
Ignis Absconditus, a musical duo hailing from Massa, Italy, is set to unveil their latest album, “Transfigurations,” on 21 December through Obscurus Records. Available exclusively as a digital release on the band’s official Bandcamp page, this record offers a unique blend of experimental rock, neofolk, dark rock, and art-rock. The album was meticulously recorded at Camera Ardente IV during the spring of 2025.
With “Transfigurations,” Ignis Absconditus presents a ten-track masterpiece that delves deep into dissonant layers, hypnotic percussion, and a compelling narrative vocal style. The band describes this work as their most mature and forward-thinking artistic endeavor yet, drawing inspiration from the likes of Bauhaus, Voivod, and dissonant black metal, while infusing elements from iconic vocalists such as Nico and Diamanda Galás. Of particular note is track nine, titled “Parò,” which pays homage to the late Massa-based artist Pier Paolo Parolini.
The painstaking engineering, mixing, and mastering of “Transfigurations” were carried out by Wanderer, the band’s guitarist and multi-instrumentalist, at Camera Ardente IV.
Established in 2018, Ignis Absconditus was born from the creative union of vocalist-lyricist Noctuaria and multi-instrumentalist Wanderer, both of whom had previously made their mark in Italy’s underground music scene through various other projects. Their debut release, “Lost Equilibrium,” surfaced in 2020 as a seven-track MiniCD on Obscvrvs Records, featuring acoustic guitar, unconventional percussion, and Noctuaria’s distinctive low-register vocals. A remixed digital version of this album, titled “Lost Equilibrium (Remix 2022),” followed in February 2022.
In June 2022, the duo dropped their inaugural full-length album, “Portrait of Beyond,” recorded at Camera Ardente the previous year and made available in digital format via Bandcamp and Obscvrvs Records.
Their second full-length offering, “Golden Horses of a Dying Future,” was unveiled on 2 February 2024 by Italian label My Kingdom Music in both digipak CD and digital forms. During the same year, Ignis Absconditus enriched their discography with the digital live release “Live at Camera Ardente” and the 7-inch single “Tomba dell’Amore / Affinità.” These tracks, originally composed before the band’s official inception, deviated stylistically from their usual experimental rock sound.
And now, with the imminent arrival of “Transfigurations,” Ignis Absconditus teases yet another chapter in their innovative musical journey.
