Silica Gel stays active through end of year, releases new song ‘BIG VOID’ after five months

Silica Gel has been busy in the music scene, and they are not slowing down as they prepare to release a new single. The band, composed of Kim Geon-jae, Kim Chun-chu, Kim Han-ju, and Choi Ung-hee, is dropping their latest single titled ‘BIG VOID’ on the 11th.

This new release comes after a five-month hiatus since their last single ‘FEFERE’ in collaboration with Korean American singer-songwriter Japanese Breakfast. ‘BIG VOID’ had a surprise pre-release during their solo concert ‘Syn.THE.Size X’ in August, where fans showed immense excitement and support for the upcoming song.

‘BIG VOID’ showcases an intriguing message of hope, with recurring phrases like ‘everyone into the great void.’ The track features a fast tempo and an uplifting piano melody that propels the song forward. There is a noticeable shift in sound compared to their previous work, moving away from the harsh and powerful ‘metallic-taste sound’ that defined Silica Gel. They are exploring new musical avenues that bring a sense of vitality to their music.

Accompanying the release of ‘BIG VOID’ is a music video that adds to the anticipation. Director Song Ki-ho, known for his visually stunning work on ‘Tik Tak Tok,’ is back to elevate the song’s visual appeal. Having previously collaborated with Silica Gel as the creative director for ‘Syn.THE.Size X,’ Song Ki-ho continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the band’s artistic direction.

Silica Gel recently concluded their largest solo concert to date, ‘Syn.THE.Size X,’ which attracted around 15,000 attendees at Ilsan KINTEX. They have been actively engaging with fans through various music events both nationally and internationally, such as ‘Grand Mint Festival 2025,’ ‘WONDERLIVET 2025,’ ‘Fuji Rock Festival’ in Japan, ‘Baybeats Festival’ in Singapore, and ‘Golden Indie Music Awards’ in Taiwan.

With a mission to transcend borders and genres through their music, Silica Gel is gearing up for the ‘[Syn.THE.Size X] JAPAN Tour 2025’ in Osaka and Tokyo on the 22nd and 23rd. They are also set to perform at ‘Countdown Fantasy 2025–2026’ on the 31st to wrap up their 2025 activities on a high note.
