DJ Soul Rock: It’s special when everything comes together in that moment. That transformation from hearing something in your head to making it real in the music — it’s a beautiful process. And talking about beautiful things, is there a song of yours that’s your favorite to perform?
Spanner Banner: Yeah, man. They are all my babies, you know. Each song has its own little vibe and thing. I love singing all of them — they all resonate with me in different ways. I think there’s a song for everyone in the audience. If I held back a song, some people might be disappointed. So we go through the collection and share a little piece of it.
DJ Soul Rock: That’s a great way to approach it. Each song is special in its own way, and everyone who comes out to see you perform will get a taste of all that history and energy. And you’ve performed all over the world — at this point in your career, what’s a personal highlight for you?
Spanner Banner: Personal highlights are so many, you know. We performed in so many countries — different languages, different people, different cultures. Every audience has its own unique energy that they bring to the show. So every time, it’s just a beautiful experience to connect with people through the music. We’ve had wonderful shows in Africa, in the States, in the Caribbean, you know. So many beautiful places, and every show is a new experience, a new highlight.
DJ Soul Rock: That connection is so powerful, being able to communicate and resonate with people from all walks of life. It sounds like every show brings something new and special. And talking about the joy of performing, what’s an aspect of performing live that’s particularly fulfilling for you?
Spanner Banner: The energy exchange is irreplaceable. When you’re on stage, you give everything. But what you receive back from the audience — that interaction, that love, that feedback — it’s priceless. It’s a beautiful thing to feel the energy in the room, to see people dancing, singing along, feeling the music just like you. It’s a connection that goes beyond words.
