Revera debuts new single mixed by Foo Fighters producer
Edmonton-based hard rock outfit, Revera, recently unveiled a fresh single, with renowned mixer Chris Sheldon, recognized for his work with the Foo Fighters, taking on the task of mixing their latest track. Comprising four members, including Matteo Sicolo on vocals and rhythm, Tristan Fehr on drums, Cassius Devlin on lead, and Caelan Alexander on bass, Revera has undergone a lineup change with Braden Sollid stepping in as the guitarist after Sicolo’s departure.
Drawing inspiration from diverse genres like ’90s grunge, post-grunge, 2000s alt rock, and pop-punk, Revera underwent a recent shift towards the heavier realms of hard rock and metal. Their newfound sound is showcased in their latest title, “Waste of Fire,” which was released on October 24, accompanied by a self-titled album drop the following day. The album seamlessly merges freshly produced studio tracks with live recordings from a performance at Blackjacks Roadhouse in Nisku. According to Sicolo, this album encapsulates the best of the band’s three-year musical journey, with the live recordings capturing a unique and unforgettable period while touring Alberta in early 2025.
To promote their latest releases, Revera adopted an unconventional marketing tactic, distributing CDs across university campuses and popular spots in Edmonton and St. Albert. Fehr, who doubles as the band’s recording engineer, expressed the band’s desire for a pristine sound quality, served by the expertise of Chris Sheldon, known for his work on Foo Fighters’ “The Colour and the Shape.” The band sought Sheldon’s expertise to achieve an immaculate mix that would elevate their music to new heights.
Incorporating external influences into their creative process, Revera incorporated the phrase “waste of fire” into their songwriting, drawing inspiration from the science fiction novel Star Maker. The phrase, chosen by Sicolo stemming from his personal aspirations for meaningful relationships, found its place in the chorus, adding depth and emotion to the track. The collaborative effort among band members, guided by Sicolo’s vision for simplicity and mystery, resulted in a track that strikes a balance between intensity and restraint, driving its message home without overwhelming listeners.
Discussing the challenges of balancing their musical pursuits with academic responsibilities, Sicolo and Fehr acknowledged the complexity of juggling band commitments with their student lives. Fehr recounted his experience of struggling to prioritize the band while pursuing business studies at NAIT, emphasizing the importance of finding a balance. Sicolo, on the other hand, highlighted the need to strike a harmonious equilibrium between his academic endeavors and musical passions, acknowledging that communication and mutual support among band members are crucial for maintaining this delicate balance.
As Revera forges ahead with their evolving sound and musical journey, the band members continue to navigate the complexities of being both students and musicians, leveraging their shared passion and dedication to overcome obstacles and create impactful music that resonates with their audience.
