Emergency services, including Patoka Township Fire and Owensville Fire crews, responded to the scene to extricate the trapped individual, who was then transported to an Evansville area hospital with serious injuries.

During the investigation of the accident, Deputy Eric Powell detected alcohol on the breath of the Toyota driver, identified as 25-year-old Zachary Whittler. As a result, Powell conducted a DUI investigation, leading to Whittler’s subsequent arrest. Whittler was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury and was taken into custody at the Gibson County Detention Center.
