Providence, R.I. – On Tuesday, new video footage and a somewhat clearer image of the suspected shooter of Brown University were disclosed by authorities. Nonetheless, there was no indication that investigators had any leads on his identity, as they were trying to piece together the events from Saturday’s shooting rampage on the university campus, during which two students perished and nine others sustained injuries. The suspect in all the released videos was either masked or had his face turned away. Authorities described him as being a stocky man standing around 5 feet, 8 inches tall. The FBI unveiled a video timeline that included fresh footage of the suspect taken before the assault. This footage depicted him intermittently running along tranquil and desolate residential streets around the campus. According to Col. Oscar Perez, the Providence police chief, investigators believe that he was surveying the area. Perez urged residents to review their surveillance cameras in the locality to check for any crucial footage that could help identify the suspect. He expressed the urgency of finding a distinct moment on the video, stating, “We’re looking for a moment that is shorter than someone taking a breath.”

Perez disclosed that there was no highly explicit video capturing the assailant inside the engineering building where the incident unfolded. Attorney General Peter Neronha mentioned that there were cameras located in the more modern parts of the building, but not as many in the section where the shooting incident occurred due to it being an older structure.

With the shooter on the loose, the atmosphere in Providence remained tense. On Tuesday, additional law enforcement personnel were dispatched to city schools to reassure concerned parents about their children’s safety. Javier Montañez, the district Superintendent, conveyed, “We recognize that the tragic incident at Brown University, occurring so close to where many of our students and families live and learn, is deeply unsettling and frightening.” The third day of the investigation, on Monday, had officers still knocking on doors and meticulously searching dumpsters and backyards in the vicinity of the Ivy League campus, scouring for supplementary footage or additional clues.

Tatjana Stojanovic, a Providence parent residing next to the Brown campus, acknowledged the fear that gripped the community but asserted, “Despite all of that, we should just go about our lives.” The immediate concern was surrounding the ongoing investigation and efforts to apprehend the perpetrator to prevent any further harm. The details extracted from the video evidence were crucial for authorities, who were diligent in scanning through every piece of information to shed light on the horrific events that transpired on the Brown University campus. The urgency of the situation was underscored by the need to resolve this case swiftly and bring the perpetrator to justice to restore a sense of security for the community.
