David Lynch, known primarily for his work in filmmaking, was also quite skilled in playing the guitar, particularly the unconventional 1997 Parker Fly electric guitar. This guitar, which was recently auctioned, boasts unique features such as a Parker tremolo bridge, two DiMarzio humbucker pickups, and a Roland GK-2A synthesizer pickup added by Lynch. The guitar also includes a piezo system with volume control, blend, master tone, and toggle selector switches for magnetic pickups and the piezo system.

William Dickerson, a devoted fan of Lynch, is now the proud owner of this extraordinary guitar. In a mini-documentary showcasing the guitar, Dickerson shares his thoughts on Lynch’s musical abilities and the inspiration he draws from his artistry. Lynch’s use of music as a raw form of expression resonates deeply with Dickerson, highlighting the direct connection between Lynch’s emotions and his guitar playing.

Upon examining the guitar, Neil Stephens from Pelham Guitars pointed out distinctive features such as the lack of a headstock and string trees, along with visible residue on the fretboard left by Lynch. The guitar maintains an authentic touch with old, tarnished strings and a peculiar headstock design. Dickerson also mentioned the inclusion of the Roland VG-8, describing it as a mysterious addition that further enhances the guitar’s capabilities.

The unique sound produced by this guitar, as Dickerson states, is the same tone heard on Lynch’s recorded music. The presence of different banks of keys on the VG-8 contributes to the guitar’s versatility and distinct quality. For any Lynch enthusiast or collector, owning a piece of equipment that directly shaped his sound is a remarkable experience that transcends traditional music gear.

Lynch’s experimental approach to music aligns with his unconventional style in filmmaking, showcasing his multifaceted talents across various art forms. The intricate design and personalized modifications on his Parker Fly guitar reflect Lynch’s innovative spirit and creative vision. For those who appreciate Lynch’s work and musical contributions, owning a piece of his guitar gear becomes a pathway to connecting with his artistic legacy on a deeper level.
