Fiona Apple to release limited benefit vinyl of “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)”
Fiona Apple has recently released a new limited edition 12″ vinyl for her song “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home),” which she initially dropped in May. This song aims to support mothers affected by the inequitable cash bail system. From each sale of this special vinyl, Fiona will donate a minimum of $7 to Let Her Go initiatives. These initiatives provide assistance to women, families, and communities impacted by pretrial incarceration.
What makes this vinyl unique is that it includes not just the original “Pretrial” track but also instrumental and intimate “practice” versions of the song on side A. Moreover, on side B, listeners can find “Court Watchers (Narration & Original Score by Fiona Apple).” The vinyl comes in an engraved sleeve, and there are even a limited number of signed photo cards that are randomly inserted into the pressings.
Fiona Apple drew inspiration for “Pretrial” through her experiences of court watching over the past two years. She witnessed countless bond hearings where individuals were detained simply because they couldn’t afford bail. This issue was heart-wrenching for her, especially when mothers and caregivers were separated from their loved ones due to financial constraints. Fiona Apple has dedicated a large portion of her time volunteering with the Free Black Mamas DMV bailout, where she met incredible women who fought for and achieved freedom with unwavering support. The song “Pretrial” is a tribute to those affected by pretrial detention, as Fiona hopes it sheds light on the struggles faced by those in such circumstances.
The thought-provoking video for “Pretrial” was beautifully produced by Zealous and Special Operations Studios. Fans of Fiona Apple can enjoy the following tracklist on the 12″ vinyl:
Side A
1. “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home)”
2. “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home) (Instrumental)”
3. “Pretrial (Let Her Go Home) (Practice)”
Side B
1. “Court Watchers (Narration & Original Score by Fiona Apple)”
This limited edition release provides fans with an opportunity to support a worthy cause while owning a unique piece of Fiona Apple’s discography. The vinyl captures the essence of Fiona’s deep involvement in advocating for justice and reform within the criminal justice system. It serves as a reminder of the power of music to inspire change and raise awareness of important social issues.
