Finn Wolfhard announced as host for ‘SNL’ January return, A$AP Rocky to perform
Finn Wolfhard is set to take on the hosting duties for the return of Saturday Night Live in January, with A$AP Rocky joining as the musical guest. The popular NBC sketch comedy series will resume airing its episodes after the holiday break on January 17.
During the festive episode hosted by Ariana Grande and featuring Cher as the musical guest, the announcement was made regarding the lineup for the upcoming episode with Wolfhard making his hosting debut. The actor, well-recognized for his role in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, will have his first shot at hosting the long-standing program.
Scheduled to appear alongside Wolfhard, rapper A$AP Rocky is slated to be the musical guest for the January 17 episode. This marks A$AP Rocky’s first official performance on Saturday Night Live, having made a brief cameo on the show back in 2018 during an episode hosted by Donald Glover.
There is a connection between Wolfhard and SNL beyond his hosting gig. In the 2024 film Saturday Night, he played the role of an NBC page in a plot that delves into the events leading up to the inaugural broadcast of Saturday Night Live in 1975.
In his recent interviews concerning Saturday Night, Wolfhard has voiced his interest in revisiting classic SNL sketches and expressed his admiration for the “Underground Rock Festival” segment originally performed by Jason Sudeikis and Nasim Pedrad.
Following the completion of filming for Stranger Things, where the actor’s profile has continued to rise, viewers anticipate his hosting debut alongside A$AP Rocky’s return to the SNL stage. The upcoming episode is highly anticipated to draw substantial viewer interest due to the combined star power.
