Mephisto Odyssey releases “CRASH: Reborn” featuring Wayne Static
Records. Over the years, Mephisto Odyssey has delved into various genres like electronica, industrial rock, and soundtrack-focused compositions. Mikael Johnston spearheads the band’s current output, taking charge of production, mixing, and conceptual direction.
Mephisto Odyssey’s track, “Crash,” was originally featured on the “Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker” soundtrack after a remix by Humble Brothers. Fast forward to the present, the band is unveiling “CRASH: Reborn,” a reincarnation of their 2000 hit. The revamped version is set to drop on December 31, 2025, commemorating its 25th anniversary. What sets this edition apart is the inclusion of never-before-heard vocal recordings by the late Wayne Static of Static-X. Additionally, Brad Gillis, recognized for his work with Night Ranger and Ozzy Osbourne, contributes new guitar elements to the track.
Rather than a mere remix, Johnston has painstakingly reconstructed the entire song, keeping Static’s original vocal performance intact. However, he has steered the composition into a darker and more electronic direction, blending industrial and electronic elements seamlessly. Accompanying the release is a visually stunning 4K music video that extends the Batman/Joker storyline, merging noir, dystopian, and comic-inspired visuals.
Initially forming in the early 1990s in San Francisco, Mephisto Odyssey emerged as a crossover project fusing electronic and industrial music under Johnston’s guidance. Their presence in the Bay Area electronic scene garnered attention and eventually led to signings with City of Angels and later Warner Bros. Records. Johnston’s creative vision has been the driving force behind the band’s evolution, shaping their sound across different genres and projects.
In parallel, Static-X, an American industrial metal band from Los Angeles, California, rose to fame in 1999 with their debut album “Wisconsin Death Trip.” Fronted by Wayne Static, the band’s heavy industrial metal sound captivated audiences. Over the years, Static-X released several more albums before entering a hiatus. Following Static’s passing in 2014, the band announced a reunion in his honor, releasing a new studio album in 2020.
With Mephisto Odyssey’s upcoming release of “CRASH: Reborn,” fans can expect a fresh take on a classic track, infused with Wayne Static’s indelible vocals and Brad Gillis’ signature guitar work. The track’s video promises to be a visual feast, building upon the Batman/Joker narrative with a blend of dark and comic-inspired imagery.
