Morrissey’s possible new album and canceled show
Morrissey has been vocal about his struggles trying to get his new music released by a record label. He had allegedly partnered with Capitol to release his album Bonfire Of Teenagers in 2023, but he ultimately parted ways with them, accusing the label of attempting to sabotage his career. The artist claimed that his music was being rejected due to the controversial title track and later suggested that the suppression of free speech could be a reason for the labels’ reluctance to release his work.
However, there seems to be a glimmer of hope for Morrissey as he recently revealed that he has found a distributor in the form of Sire, the former US label of his band, The Smiths. This development signals a new chapter for the artist who is now gearing up for an album cycle. Interestingly, the album he is currently promoting is not Bonfire Of Teenagers but a different project titled You’re Right, It’s Time.
Bonfire Of Teenagers was recorded over the span of 2020-2021 with renowned producer Andrew Watt and was set to feature collaborations with the likes of Miley Cyrus, Chad Smith, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Iggy Pop. The album’s title was inspired by the tragic terrorist attack at the 2017 Manchester Arena during an Ariana Grande concert that resulted in the loss of 22 lives. On the other hand, You’re Right, It’s Time, originally named Without Music The World Dies, was recorded in 2023 at La Fabrique Studios in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli. Morrissey recently shared the tracklist for this project, which includes some songs that he has already performed live.
Morrissey has faced several setbacks in his live performances, with a string of canceled shows. In September, he called off a concert in Ottawa due to threats, while in October, a gig in Turkey was canceled following backlash over his support for Israel. In November, the artist cited extreme exhaustion as the reason for canceling his South American tour. To add to the list, Morrissey seems to be canceling his first-ever concert in the Dominican Republic, scheduled for January 25. Although the event is still listed on his tour page, both the ticketing site and the venue removed it without any official statement from the artist or promoter.
Despite these challenges, Morrissey remains determined to share his music with his fans. He expressed his excitement about the upcoming release of his new album, emphasizing that the second album will be unveiled before the previously anticipated Bonfire Of Teenagers. The artist is confident that this new project will captivate his audience from start to finish and showcase his artistic vision in a breathtaking manner.
