Morrissey unveils new album tracklist with Sire Records
On Friday, December 19th, reports emerged that Morrissey had inked a deal with Sire Records, which was hinted at through the appearance of the Sire logo on his official Instagram page and website. This partnership with Sire Records comes after a tumultuous period of instability with different record labels spanning over a decade for the former vocalist of The Smiths. Following the release of his 10th studio album, World Peace Is None Of Your Business, in 2014, Morrissey’s contract with Capitol Music/Harvest Records ended abruptly. Subsequently, he signed with BMG Records only to be dropped in 2020 citing the label’s “new plans for diversity”. Despite this setback, Morrissey managed to release three albums under BMG – Low in High School, California Son, and I Am Not a Dog on a Chain.
In 2021, Morrissey experienced a brief reconciliation with Capitol when he signed a new deal for his album Bonfire of Teenagers, which was scheduled for release in February 2023. Unfortunately, the collaboration between Morrissey and Capitol disintegrated once again, leading Morrissey to declare that he had voluntarily distanced himself from Capitol Records. Despite his optimism about Bonfire of Teenagers being “the best album of my life” and featuring collaborations with prominent artists like Iggy Pop, members of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Miley Cyrus (who later asked to be removed from the project), Morrissey’s contractual relationship with Capitol Records fell apart.
Subsequently, Morrissey announced that he reacquired the rights to both World Peace Is None Of Your Business and Bonfire of Teenagers in 2024. The speculation among fans was that Morrissey’s signing with Sire Records might finally see the release of Bonfire of Teenagers. However, it appears that Morrissey has been sitting on another album titled You’re Right, It’s Time. In an interview with Polish magazine Teraz Rock, Morrissey mentioned that the album was originally scheduled for release in September, with Morrissey stating, “The second album will be released first. It’s called You’re Right, It’s Time. Everyone who’s heard it thinks it is Morrissey’s best album yet.”
Although the anticipated September release did not materialize, the tracklist for You’re Right, It’s Time hints at the possibility of a new Morrissey album on the horizon. The tracklist includes songs such as The Monsters of Pig Alley, Headache, Make-up is a Lie, The Night Pop Dropped, You’re Right, It’s Time, Kerching Kerching, Zoom Zoom the Little Boy, Lester Bangs, Boulevard, Many Icebergs Ago, Amazona, and Notre-Dame. Fans of Morrissey are eagerly awaiting the release of this new album, which promises to showcase the iconic musician’s musical prowess and lyrical genius once more.
