Cure guitarist and keyboard player Perry Bamonte passes away at 65
The unfortunate passing of Perry Bamonte, renowned guitarist and keyboard player for The Cure, has left the music world in mourning. The legendary British dark rock band announced his death at the age of 65 on Friday, revealing that Bamonte had succumbed to a short illness at home over the Christmas period.
Bamonte, who joined The Cure as a full member in 1990, was described as a quiet, intensive, intuitive, and highly creative individual who played a vital role in the band’s legacy. Known affectionately as “Teddy,” his warm-hearted nature and immense talent contributed significantly to The Cure’s musical journey.
Throughout his time with the band, Bamonte played several instruments, including guitar, six-string bass, and keyboards, helping create numerous iconic albums such as “Wish” (1992), “Wild Mood Swings” (1996), and “Bloodflowers” (2000). In his first 14-year stint with The Cure, Bamonte performed in over 400 shows, showcasing his musical prowess to fans worldwide. After rejoining the band in 2022, he continued to impress audiences with his performances in 90 more shows, described by the band as some of the best in its history.
Led by the distinctive vocals and guitar work of frontman Robert Smith, The Cure revolutionized the music scene with its innovative approach.
