Dave Mustaine of Megadeth to Embark on Farewell Tour and Release Final Album Due to Hand Condition

Dave Mustaine, the frontman of Megadeth, recently announced his plans for a farewell tour and final album. Mustaine revealed that his decision to retire was influenced by a painful condition known as Dupuytren’s contracture, along with struggles with arthritis. The 64-year-old musician made this choice during studio sessions when the pain in his hands became unbearable.

During an interview, Mustaine shared, “My hands were hurting really bad. And then I just said one day to my management, ‘You know, I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna be able to do this.’ I didn’t say, ‘Hey, I wanna retire right now.'” Surgery for his hands will have to wait until after the farewell tour concludes, as operating now while he is still at 95 percent capacity might further impede his abilities.

Mustaine expressed his belief that when he is no longer able to give a hundred percent every night, it is time to consider winding down. The band’s final album is set to be released on Jan. 23, following their previous record, ‘The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!’ from 2022. The upcoming album will be released through Mustaine’s imprint on Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label, with Chris Rakestraw handling production, as he did for their last two records.

The This Was Our Life tour is scheduled to commence in 2026 and could span three to five years, potentially leading the guitarist to his 70th birthday in 2031. Mustaine expressed his desire to retire on his own terms and on top, a rare opportunity that many musicians do not get.

The current lineup of Megadeth includes guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, drummer Dirk Verbeuren, and bassist James LoMenzo. Mäntysaari joined the band two years ago, replacing Kiko Loureiro, who departed to spend more time with his family in Finland. Fans can anticipate the release of the final album and stay updated on future tour dates via the band’s official website.

In conclusion, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth has decided to embark on a farewell tour and release a final album due to health issues affecting his hands. Despite the challenges posed by Dupuytren’s contracture and arthritis, Mustaine remains determined to conclude his illustrious career on his own terms and at the pinnacle of his success. Fans can look forward to one last opportunity to see Megadeth in action during their upcoming tour and to experience their final album before Mustaine takes his final bow from the music industry.
