Kwon Jin-ah completes intimate theater show, showcasing her versatility
Singer-songwriter Kwon Jin-ah recently wrapped up her five-day year-end theater concert, showcasing her musical talents and growth through pure vocals and live performances. From December 24 to 28, Kwon treated fans to her concert titled “This Winter: Best Wishes” at the Ewha Womans University ECC Samsung Hall in Seoul. This venue holds a special place in her heart as it was where she held her first solo concert six years ago. Returning to the same hall, this time with a more extensive career under her belt, evoked strong emotions for the artist.
Earlier in the year, Kwon had performed at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium, but for this recent concert, she purposefully chose a smaller space. Armed with just her guitar and minimal accompaniment, she aimed to connect with her audience solely through her music without any flashy production. Throughout the performance, Kwon took the lead, supported by only three session musicians and no backing vocals. She even played the guitar for more than half of the setlist, delivering stable live vocals and flawlessly controlling the show’s flow.
The concert showcased Kwon’s versatility across various music genres, from ballads and folk to R&B, rock, and jazz. She moved the audience with emotional tracks like “Luck Was on My Side” and “The End,” transitioning seamlessly to rock-driven songs like “Like This,” “Night,” and “Raise Up the Flag,” highlighting her powerful sound and dynamic vocal range. Additionally, she performed covers of Christmas carols and songs like “Another Name for You” from Netflix’s Genie, Make a Wish, and “HOPE” by Eunjung and Sangyeon, enriching the live experience even further.
On the final evening of the concert, on December 28, Park Jin-young made a surprise appearance, joining Kwon for a duet of his new song “Happy Hour (On the Way Home)” and sharing the stage for other songs like “That’s How My Heart Is” and “I Have a Girlfriend,” with Kwon accompanying on the guitar. Reflecting on the experience, Kwon expressed gratitude towards her fans for their support, mentioning that this was her most intense period of practice since her participation in K-pop Star. She pushed herself to the limit, feeling a profound sense of accomplishment.
Looking ahead, Kwon Jin-ah promised to return in 2026 with even stronger music and a more solid foundation. In the meantime, fans can catch her as a guest at Brown Eyed Soul’s concert “Soul Tricycle” on December 31.
