Renowned musician Peter Gabriel has recently unveiled his latest album titled ‘o/i’, marking his 11th studio release. This new project comes on the heels of his 2023 album ‘i/o’, which marked a significant return to recording after a 21-year hiatus. Just like its predecessor, ‘o/i’ is intricately tied to the lunar calendar, with scheduled releases of “Dark-Side” and “Bright-Side” mixes by producers Tchad Blake and Mark ‘Spike’ Stent set for each full moon and new moon of the month, culminating in December. In a statement, Gabriel expressed that the songs on the album encapsulate a mix of thoughts and emotions.

Having contemplated the future and impending societal shifts triggered by innovations like AI, quantum computing, and brain-computer interfaces, Gabriel explained the album’s concept. He emphasized the role of artists in foreseeing and reflecting upon such transformations. The album, he explained, delves into themes of self-discovery, interconnectedness with nature, and the power of love and music in finding one’s place in the world.

Gabriel’s latest single, “Been Undone (Dark-Side Mix)”, is the first track released from ‘o/i’. This ambient and reflective art-rock piece resonates with a sense of calm and introspection. Notably, Gabriel collaborated with his longstanding band members Tony Levin, David Rhodes, and Manu Katché on this track, its origins reaching back thirty years to an unreleased demo titled “Sit”. Each individual song release will be accompanied by a unique visual artwork, with the first cover featuring Janaina Mello Landini’s piece “Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome)”.

The artist marveled at Landini’s artistic interpretation of intertwining ropes, likening it to fractals, tree trunks, and the human brain, finding multiple layers of symbolism in her work. Gabriel expressed his intention of incorporating some of these songs into his ongoing “brain project”, a venture he has been exploring for several years. Additionally, he mentioned that some songs simply evoke joy and optimism in him, expressing his hope that listeners will enjoy them as well.

Fans can access the track “Been Undone (Dark-Side Mix)” along with an introduction video released by Gabriel himself to delve deeper into the essence of this single and the broader series. For further updates on Peter Gabriel’s music and other recent projects, visit his official website.
