Unable to wander freely, Plant found solace in bonding with a diverse group of musicians in the English countryside. Over six years, he and his band recorded the album in the Cotswolds and on the Welsh Borders, featuring songs by artists like Memphis Minnie, Bob Mosley, Blind Willie Johnson, The Low Anthem, Martha Scanlan, Sarah Siskind, and Low.

Apart from Suzi Dian, the band Saving Grace consists of Oli Jefferson on drums, Tony Kelsey on acoustic and electric guitar, Barney Morse-Brown on cello, and Matt Worley on banjo and acoustic guitar.
