Bonnie “Prince” Billy Reveals Upcoming Album ‘We Are Together Again’

Will Oldham has been a significant figure in the American underground music scene for many years, and his creative output shows no signs of slowing down. Roughly a year ago, Oldham released The Purple Bird, an impressive album under his Bonnie “Prince” Billy persona. He also engaged in a candid and stimulating interview for our We’ve Got A File On You feature. Since then, Oldham has expanded his horizons by taking on a role in Boy Harsher’s film The Lonely Woman and collaborating with Yo La Tengo. Now, he is preparing to launch another album.

In the coming weeks, Will Oldham will unveil the latest Bonnie “Prince” Billy album, We Are Together Again. He crafted this new LP in his hometown of Louisville, a project he initiated before venturing to Nashville to create The Purple Bird. Oldham worked alongside Jim Marlowe as co-producer. Notably, the album showcases the talents of members from his current touring band – such as flutist/saxophonist Jacob Dunkan and multi-instrumentalist Thomas Deakin – as well as other musicians like Ryan McNair, Chris Bush, Erin Hill, and his brother Ned Oldham. Oldham shared his perspective on the album in a press statement, noting the geographical influence on the record:

“This record was made closer to the Ohio River than any I’ve been involved with since 1993’s Palace Brothers There Is No-One What Will Take Care of You. Louisville’s current-and-past vital musical community is highlighted on every song. Catherine Irwin, who sang on the BPB release Ease Down the Road, is back here on “Hey Little” and “Vietnam Sunshine.” Lacey Guthrie, Tory Fishe, and Katie Peabody, the three frontwomen of the band Duchess, sing together on the opening and closing songs, parallel odes to the beast that is fear.”

Oldham has shared the lead single from the album “They Keep Trying To Find You.” In this track, he delves into wise, tender, and lyrically captivating storytelling while addressing someone lost in despair. The accompanying video, directed and choreographed by Abi Elliott, features a royal Sasquatch, partly portrayed by Oldham. The tracklist for We Are Together Again is as follows:
