Seven years have passed since the release of the Twilight Sad’s previous album, “It Won’t Be Like This All The Time.” In the interim, lead vocalist James Graham collaborated on a side project with Aidan Moffat of Arab Strap called Gentle Sinners, and the band embarked on multiple tours with iconic group The Cure. Now, the Scottish indie rock outfit is gearing up for the release of their upcoming album, “It’s The Long Goodbye,” set to debut in March. The first single off the record, “Designed To Lose,” is already available for fans to enjoy.

Reflecting on the album, Graham delves into the inspiration behind the music, stating that unlike previous works, this album delves deep into themes of mental health, grief, and the struggle to maintain strength in times of adversity. He emphasizes the universal nature of the album’s message, noting that everyone experiences loss and the questioning of life’s purpose at some point. The raw emotional depth of the album promises a heartfelt and relatable listening experience for all who hear it.

The album was primarily produced by the band’s own Andy MacFarlane, with additional production credits going to Andy Savours of My Bloody Valentine and mixing by Chris Coady of Slowdive fame. The collaboration between these talented individuals ensures a rich and layered sound that complements the emotional depth of the lyrics. The melancholic yet raw essence of the music is evident in the recently released single, “Designed To Lose,” setting the tone for what fans can expect from the upcoming album.

The tracklist for “It’s The Long Goodbye” includes a variety of emotive and introspective titles such as “Get Away From It All,” “Dead Flowers,” and “TV People Still Throwing TVs At People.” These evocative song titles hint at the thematic richness and depth that listeners can anticipate from the album. With a blend of unique instrumentation, heartfelt lyrics, and powerful vocals, “It’s The Long Goodbye” promises to be a captivating musical journey that resonates with audiences on a personal level.

Scheduled for release on March 27th via Rock Action, “It’s The Long Goodbye” is already generating anticipation among fans of the Twilight Sad and indie rock enthusiasts alike. The opportunity to pre-order the album provides eager listeners with a chance to secure their copy and be among the first to experience the emotional and sonic landscapes that the band has crafted.
