Famous metal guitarist to release new solo album this year, the first in 17 years
Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi is set to make a triumphant return with the upcoming release of his first solo album in over 20 years. The 77-year-old guitarist announced this exciting news in a heartfelt New Year’s message video shared on his YouTube channel, expressing his enthusiasm for his new project and assuring fans that the album will be out within the coming year.
This forthcoming solo album will mark Iommi’s first standalone record since the release of “Fused” back in 2005. Despite the extended hiatus from solo work, Iommi has kept himself occupied with a variety of endeavors, including musical collaborations, charitable activities, and the development of his own product lines.
Looking back at the past year, Iommi reflected on the significant milestones and losses experienced by Black Sabbath, the iconic band he co-founded. Notably, the band was honored with the Freedom of the City award from Birmingham, England, a touching acknowledgment that deeply resonated with Iommi. Additionally, Black Sabbath bid farewell with a monumental show called “Back to the Beginning” at Villa Park in Birmingham, which featured several supporting acts and raised an impressive $11 million for charity.
Receiving the Freedom of the City accolade was a particularly memorable moment for Iommi, who expressed his disbelief and gratitude for the prestigious recognition.
