Michael Jackson’s Posthumous Release Achieves Top 10 Spot on R&B Chart After 15+ Years

Having entered the chart for the first time since its release in 2001, “You Rock My World” also secured a spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart at No. 14. It served as the lead single from his Invincible album, which was released in the summer of 2001. This song stood as the King of Pop’s last top 10 hit on the Hot 100 before his untimely passing in 2009, peaking at No. 10.

Despite not winning, “You Rock My World” also received a Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, competing against James Taylor’s “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight.” Invincible, the album from which the single originated, dropped right before Halloween in 2001 and spawned two singles: “You Rock My World” and “Cry.”

While Thriller experienced a slight decline on various Billboard charts like Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Vinyl Albums, Top Album Sales, and the Billboard 200, it made a noteworthy jump on the Top R&B Albums chart, advancing from No. 7 to No. 4.

With “You Rock My World” standing as his sole hit song on the American charts this week, the Billboard lists are witnessing a resurgence of older tracks as the holiday music season fades away once again.
