“Dune Rats Debut New Song ‘Shark’ in 2026”
Dune Rats have kicked off 2026 with a bang by dropping their latest single, Shark, along with an accompanying music video as they embark on a busy year of touring. The Brisbane band is wasting no time in making their mark on the new year, using Shark to set the tone for what lies ahead while staying connected to their loyal fan base, who have supported them from small local venues to major festival stages.
On their new track, Shark, Dune Rats expressed their excitement, stating, “Frothing to release this new song ‘Sharks’ off our upcoming album ‘Old Mates’, a collection of our favorite tracks from our early EPs.”
The release of Shark coincides with Dune Rats’ current national tour as special guests on Yungblud’s Australian tour dates. Night after night, the band has been warming up crowds in packed arenas with a set that pays homage to Australian rock history, kicking off their performances with a cover of The Angels’ classic, “Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again.” This choice of song has become a unifying moment, bridging the gap between generations of Australian rock fans and solidifying Dune Rats’ position in the lineage of loud, humorous, and community-driven rock music.
Originating in Brisbane, Queensland, Dune Rats started as a duo, with Danny Beus on guitar and lead vocals, and BC Michael Marks on drums and backing vocals. Their music immediately resonated with audiences, both in live settings and online, due to its raw energy and infectious nature. The addition of bassist Brett Jansch, and occasional appearances by Brad Heald on bass during their earlier years, rounded out the lineup that propelled Dune Rats to new heights.
Dune Rats first made waves on a national scale with the release of “Colour Television” on Triple J Unearthed followed by their self-titled debut album in 2014. The album’s success led to extensive touring, solidifying the band’s reputation as a high-energy live act. In 2015, Dune Rats expanded their Ratbag Records label to support other artists, further showcasing their commitment to community and independence in the music industry.
Their breakthrough came in 2017 with the release of their second album, “The Kids Will Know It’s Bullshit,” which topped the ARIA Albums Chart. Subsequent releases continued to evolve their sound while keeping their live performances at the forefront of their identity. Their fourth album, “Real Rare Whale,” was released in 2022, followed by their fifth album, “If It Sucks, Turn It Up,” in 2024.
With Shark, Dune Rats are signaling that 2026 will be a year filled with new music and exciting possibilities. The track represents a continuation of their musical journey, building on their past successes while looking towards the future.
