After an illustrious five-decade-long career, the renowned bassist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea, is embarking on a new musical journey by releasing his first solo album, “Honora”. Set to debut on March 27, the album marks a significant return to Flea’s musical roots, which are deeply intertwined with jazz and the trumpet.
The initial offering from the album, a single titled “Traffic Lights”, was collaboratively composed by Flea along with Thom Yorke and Josh Johnson. The release of this track was accompanied by a brand-new video that further accentuates Flea’s musical prowess and creative vision.
In a bid to promote the forthcoming album, Flea will take to the road on an international tour, enlisting the talents of Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, bassist Anna Butterss, and drummer Deantoni Parks as part of his touring ensemble. Besides featuring six original compositions, “Honora” will also include reinterpretations of musical works by the likes of George Clinton, Eddie Hazel, Jimmy Webb, Frank Ocean, Shea Taylor, and Ann Ronell.
Reflecting on the collaborative effort that birthed “Traffic Lights”, Flea shared, “Deantoni and I crafted what eventually evolved into ‘Traffic Lights’ on the very first day of our creative journey. There was something about the composition that resonated with the essence of Atoms For Peace, prompting me to share it with Thom. I was confident that the rhythm and sensibility of the piece would strike a chord with him, a sentiment that was validated when Thom embraced it wholeheartedly.” The track delves into the complexities of navigating a world rife with contrasting realities, exploring themes of authenticity in the face of a plethora of falsehoods.
Flea’s extensive tour itinerary encompasses a multitude of cities across the globe, promising an immersive live experience for fans. From Chicago to Amsterdam, London to Paris, the tour aims to showcase Flea’s solo artistry in a diverse array of musical landscapes.
