Trivium Interactive, a company that specializes in creating interactive and immersive media for attractions, played a key role in developing a new multimedia experience called Not Fade Away at the Surf Ballroom Music Experience Center in Clear Lake, Iowa. This project showcases how immersive media can bring new life to historic music venues like the Surf Ballroom while honoring their rich history. The Surf Ballroom is famous for being the place where Buddy Holly, J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, and Ritchie Valens performed their last concert in 1959 before tragically perishing in a plane crash. Not Fade Away goes beyond this tragic event to delve into the venue’s origins, its evolution alongside popular American music, and the Clear Lake community’s efforts to preserve its legacy. This immersive experience is the only one of its kind in the United States that focuses on an active rock ‘n’ roll landmark.

Developed in collaboration with the City of Clear Lake, the Surf Ballroom, Electrosonic, Available Light, and Natalie Zanecchia Design, Not Fade Away pays tribute to the artists, fans, and community members who have contributed to the Surf Ballroom’s cultural significance over the past century. The experience is structured into distinct chapters, each lasting 40 minutes, guiding visitors on a journey through the venue’s rich history and the pivotal role it has played in the music scene.

Not Fade Away aims to engage visitors in a unique and interactive way, blending technology with storytelling to create a dynamic and immersive experience that resonates with audiences of all ages. By incorporating cutting-edge multimedia elements, such as audiovisual displays, interactive exhibits, and tactile sensory components, the attraction provides a multi-sensory experience that captures the essence of the Surf Ballroom’s vibrant history. This innovative approach not only educates visitors about the venue’s past but also fosters a deeper appreciation for its cultural significance and the enduring impact of its musical legacy.

With a focus on immersive storytelling and audience engagement, Trivium Interactive and its collaborators have succeeded in creating an experience that not only entertains but also educates and inspires visitors. By leveraging interactive technologies and multimedia content, Not Fade Away offers a fresh perspective on the Surf Ballroom’s history and celebrates the enduring legacy of this iconic music venue. Through a combination of historical narrative, interactive displays, and immersive exhibits, the attraction provides a comprehensive insight into the venue’s evolution and its significance in shaping the cultural landscape of Clear Lake, Iowa.
