Alanis Morissette, Taylor Swift, and Kiss to be honored at Songwriters Hall of Fame
The 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony will feature esteemed names in the music industry, including Taylor Swift, Kiss’s Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Tricky Stewart, Alanis Morissette, and Kenny Loggins. These talented individuals will be honored for their exceptional contributions to songwriting during the event on June 11 in New York City.
Taylor Swift, known for shaping contemporary pop music trends with her songwriting, will undoubtedly bring heightened attention to this year’s new class. Kiss founders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, fresh off the band’s farewell, will also be lauded for their glam rock classics “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “I Love It Loud.”
Joining Swift, Simmons, and Stanley as nominees are the soft-rock legend Kenny Loggins, famous for hits like “Footloose” and “Danny’s Song,” alt-rock icon Alanis Morissette, known for songs such as “You Oughta Know” and “Ironic,” and the groundbreaking R&B songwriter, producer, and rapper Christopher (Tricky) Stewart, recognized for his work on tracks like Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies,” and “Break My Soul.”
The Songwriters Hall of Fame recognizes performers and non-performers alike, with this year’s non-performing category including the duo Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, known for their work on Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” It is not uncommon for performers to receive induction after multiple nominations, as seen with Walter Afanasieff, who contributed to Mariah Carey’s hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” While he was nominated in the 2025 class without success, he will now be rightfully inducted this year.
In a statement, Songwriters Hall of Fame chairman Nile Rodgers emphasized the vital role of songwriters in the music industry, highlighting that everything in music stems from the song and its creator. This year’s lineup not only celebrates iconic songs but also promotes unity across various genres.
Established in 1969 to honor those shaping popular music, the Songwriters Hall of Fame mandates that a songwriter with a significant catalog of songs becomes eligible for induction 20 years after the first commercial release of a song. Notable figures already in the hall include Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, Carole King, Paul Simon, Lionel Richie, Bill Withers, Neil Diamond, and others.
Past inductees include artists like George Clinton, The Doobie Brothers, Ashley Gorley, Rodney (Darkchild) Jerkins, Mike Love of The Beach Boys, and Tony Macaulay. The upcoming ceremony promises to be a celebration of musical excellence and a tribute to the enduring impact of talented songwriters in the industry.
